PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

Outstanding NAPLAN results again!

Parents and Carers of students currently enrolled in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 would have recently received their child’s 2019 NAPLAN reports. I trust that you have been able to celebrate the growth of your child and discuss areas requiring growth with teachers.

In general, our school’s results are fantastic. The results of our school are at or above state average in each grade assessed. Five domains are assessed in NAPLAN - Grammar & Punctuation, Numeracy, Reading, Spelling and Writing.

Combining the five domains show the following very pleasing results:

Year 3 - Above NSW state average AND well above Statistically Similar Schools

Year 5 - At and comparable with both NSW state AND Statistically Similar Schools

Year 7 - Well above NSW state average AND well above Statistically Similar Schools

Year 9 - At NSW state average AND well above Statistically Similar Schools

My personal favourite piece of data is the Year 3 performance over time. This data shows that the performance of our Year 3 students is either above or well above the NSW state average and the average of Statistically Similar Schools IN EACH OF THE PAST FOUR YEARS.

This is so encouraging for our teachers and affirms that our plan is working!

Approximately five years ago the teaching team began researching and implementing a specific approach to teaching and learning. These Year 3 results show that a consistent and high standard of teaching, that is research-based, works! It shows that our students moving through Kindergarten, Year 1, Year 2 and Year 3 are being well-taught. They are learning beyond and above the average. Good quality teaching equals above average results.

Parents and Carers - you should be very excited about this. Strong literacy and numeracy performance creates the foundation for deeper and more creative learning and living throughout the school years and into adult life. Simply put, it gives your child more options in life.

A milestone form Year 12

It is important for us to celebrate significant milestones in life. Over the past weeks our Year 12 students have had several milestones - their final day of classes, their Year 12 Graduation Dinner, the Graduation Assembly and of course their HSC exams.

Within this edition of the newsletter you will see numerous photos of Year 12 students and their families celebrating completion of their secondary schooling. These students are currently finalising a few more HSC exams and will join the whole school community for one last time at our annual Presentation Day on Thursday 5th December.

Junior School

Welcome to Term 4. This is our last term for the year with our teachers and students racing to the end. In Junior School we are focused on capitalizing on every moment of our learning with some excursions still to happen and of course our end of year celebrations. In week 2, Year 5/6 went on camp to Bathurst. Our itinerary was engaging with new experiences had by all. Highlights included Scenic world railway, the race track at Mt Panorama, the National Racing Museum, a torchlight tour of the 1800’s mansion, Abercrombie House and walking through an 1800’s gold mine. Check out our photos later in this newsletter. As a Junior School we have had a strong year, growing, learning and full of new experiences and this has been great! As we continue through term 4, I encourage everyone to not to miss an opportunity for learning and improving and to finish off even stronger!

Senior School

Welcome back to Senior School for this final term of 2019. Our Year 12 students commenced their HSC Exams earlier this term and we continue to pray for them as they navigate this rite of passage. Our Year 7 to 10 students will complete their Yearly Examinations in week 5. Our Senior Staff are already preparing them in class with revision notes and study techniques. After the examination period we will continue to ensure students are provided with rich and engaging learning experiences. Including Year 11 Senior Retreat at Tuscany Estate, Stage 4 Harris Farm excursion giving the students opportunity to observe sustainable farming practices, Stage 5 and 4 will enjoy the local swimming pool and much more.

Finally, in week 6 Senior School will launch, ‘A College Christmas 2019’. As we did last year, we will be placing a living Christmas tree in the SLC for students to place a gift under. These items will then be distributed to the Salvation Army who will pass onto local families in need this Christmas. We look forward to partnering with you in supporting the wider community and giving hope to others this Christmas.

Kind Regards,
Katie Kelly

Important reminders

Discussions with teachers at Afternoon Pickup
if you would like to discuss with the teacher any matters relating to your child please make arrangements to book a time. You can do this directly with them via email or via the College Office. The priority of teachers at the end of the school day is the safe dismissal of every child in their care.

Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) Years 5-12
all Year 7-12 students must bring their MacBook to school each day charged and ready for use.

Students in Years 5-6 are transitioning to full BYOD model in 2020. This year, a device is optional and is best used in discussion with Mrs Thurlow.

Uniform Room - Open Wednesday before and after school

Uniform Room will be open before and after school on Wednesdays to allow students to try on uniforms prior to ordering. All uniforms are ordered online through the Uniform Shop and we highly recommend trying on uniforms for sizing (especially the winter sports tracksuits) to ensure the correct sizing.

If you have any questions or would like to book a fitting in the Uniform Room please contact the College Office on 6572 6600.
